The LRFD method (Load Resistance Design Factor) introduces two types of design coefficients: load factors and resistance factors.
Is is a method that gives importance to the Ultimate Limit State of the structure and does not take into account the concept of "characteristic" resistance.
The method is based on the inequality:
where Q is the sum of the nominal loads acting on the structure multiplied by the "load factors" ,ϕ is a “resistance factor” and Rn is the nominal resistance.
