Structural Failure of the Lining

The check against this mechanism is performed by calculating the stresses, particularly shear and bending moment, acting on the lining and comparing these values with the ultimate values. This check is carried out in interoperability with the RC-SEC software. The stresses are calculated by assuming that the lining can be schematized as a continuous beam on multiple supports, subjected to a variable distributed load (Figure 7).

In this scheme, the constraints represent the reinforcements, and therefore the reaction forces are equal to Fi, while the load is given by the sum of the total pressures exerted by the soil upstream.
